First of all – thank you so much to our clients for allowing me the time away from the office this past week! Belive me, it was SO worth it! Totally out of my comfort zone, I headed down to Mexico on my first solo international trip to GIVE. We were serving in the village of Caribe, north of Cabo San Lucas, an area hit hard by a hurricane on 9/1/17. Caribe is a little village built in a sand arroyo and was mostly washed away with heavy rains and floods. They are doing a fantastic job of rebuilding, using whatever pallet board, concrete block, or chicken wire available. These people are RESILIENT! We set up our first clinic and got to work, serving 218 people chiropractic and fitting another 100 for glasses on just our first day.
Our next clinic was closer to Cabo, with better access to the working class, so we set up in the evening as they got off work. There was air conditioning! Everyone was so happy, and although a language barrier, smiling ear to ear is an international sign of gratitude that goes both ways.
Very grateful for Michelle, Grace and Raoul of WayCoolAngels and the beautiful service they are providing the underserved. I am also so grateful to have met Dr. Bud (Michael Budincich) from Pasadenda, California – who has over 30 years chiropractic and service mission work experience! Dr. Brad Zisch (and his wife Kim) from Denver, Colorado, organized the majority of the trip and is also a veteran missionary. And Dr. Dan Ourada (and his wife Kendra) from Chicago joined us for his second tour!
My line has thickened between want and need. I am Blessed.
Pain is a symptom. So is hunger, thirst, and tiredness.
Vitalistic Chiropractic does not focus on symptoms – the focus is on function or on the cause of the dysfunction.
The master system of the body is the nervous system. All activities of the body are expressed or coordinated through the nervous system – your heart beating, your lung respiration, your gut digestion, your eyes blinking, and so on. All of the activities I just mentioned are performing without you consciously telling your brain to send messages to the rest of your body! How does your body know to perform and regulate these functions? Innate Intelligence – the inborn intelligence of the body that flows through the nervous system coordinating health and the body’s ability to adapt to external stress/environment.
The majority of your nervous system is housed by your spine. With your brain as the command center, information is passed down through the spinal cord and out to peripheral nerves. This action is considered motor – telling your hand to shake, your your elbow to bend, your leg to step, and so on. You also have sensory nerves that travel in the opposite manner from the periphery to the brain carrying vital information such as a change in temperature.
Quite often this mega information system controlling all functions in the body will encounter interference. Much like static on a cellular phone call, the body also experiences interference in nerve connections. Chiropractors refer to this interference as a Subluxation (literally meaning a state of decreased light). Dis-ease is a lack of ease or coordination specifically caused by a subluxation. This incoordination is moving away from health, optimal function and ultimately, optimal life expression.
Your Chiropractor is the only doctor specifically trained to detect, locate, analyze, and correct these subluxations, or interferences, in your body’s master system. This is done by the adjustment. A Chiropractic adjustment means to bring two vertebra into the right relationship while also uniting the innate intelligence of the body and the physical matter of the body. The adjustment is what restores function.
Health is not the absence of disease and disease is not merely the presence of symptoms. Therefore, vitalistic chiropractic focuses on a clear connection with your source and promotes health while enhancing your quality of life.
Next time you’re ready to shove that donut into your mouth because you’re hungry or just because it’s there, ask yourself, “Is this what I want to be made of?” Will this food give me the clear glowing skin, shiny hair and strong nails that I want? Will this food give me long lasting energy so that I can live the life I want?
Conscious eating changes everything.
Once you take the time to look at every bite you eat and every sip you take you make the time to think about the masterpiece you are. Would Picasso smear his canvas with toxic goo? Would Michael Angelo look for David in a mound of hydrogenated oil? What makes you think that your masterpiece will come from filling your body with “food-like” products?
Take time to eat colorfully.
Adding LOTS of colorful fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet ensures you the building blocks to health. We’re talking REAL colors here. Not the artificial blue in that blueberry “flavored” muffin or the bright red added to goo for strawberry “flavored” fillings. Instead, reach for red bell peppers, green spinach, the deep purple of blackberries and the Orange glow of butternut squash.
Be sure your fruit and vegetables are fresh – no chemicals added!
Avoid prepared foods with additives that enhance flavor and extend shelf life. Push your cart through the produce area. Touch, tape and smell what you buy. Eat your produce raw, sauté it in healthy fat or roast it in your own oven. The only way to be sure you know what’s in your food is to make it yourself.
Yes, you can have a life and prepare your own food!
With the new clean eating craze you’ll find healthy meal suggestions around every corner. Check out your local newspaper, the Sunday Magazine, ladies’ magazines, TV shows, Pintrest or just Google clean eating. Yes, you will have to stock your kitchen with healthy foods and more importantly you’ll have to EAT them! Decide that filling the masterpiece that is you with healthy building blocks is more important than just “filling” your life. Eat intentionally. Live intentionally.
